During our travels through Colorado, Jon and I and our friend Ben stumbled upon the REI Basecamp at the Stanley Hotel (yep, that's the resort that inspired Stephen King's The Shining).  We decided to go look inside, and boy are we glad we did!  The guys there were super friendly, and gave us advice on the best scenic route through Rocky Mountain National Park as well as directions to an easy, gorgeous hike at Bear Lake.  As luck would have it, that night they were also having a National Park Night party with trivia, live music, s'mores, and--best of all--buy one get one local brews!  It sounded like fun, and all proceeds benefitted the Rocky Mountain Conservancy, so how could we say no?  :-)

Check out some photos below from the Stanley Hotel (the REI Basecamp is located on their front lawn, overlooking the mountains), our driving adventure through RMNP, a short hike at Bear Lake, and National Park Night!
